Music superstar Taylor Swift took over the sports world for her links to the NFL in 2023. However, she showed her connections to the NBA yesterday with her outfit.

Taylor Swift and the late great Kobe Bryant were friends. She showcased her appreciation for Bryant by wearing a memorabilia piece of the Los Angeles Lakers great to the studio yesterday. She wore a necklace with a pendant with Bryant’s famous quote, “Bet on yourself,” engraved in it. This pendant came from the now sold-out collection launched by Bryant’s wife, Vanessa Bryant.

The necklace is part of the Mambacita x ZC capsule collection launched by Vanessa Bryant along with jeweler Zoë Chicco. Swift, being a long-time friend of the Bryant’s honored his and his wife’s efforts to help undeserved athletes by wearing the necklace. Profits from the necklace will go to the Mamba and Mambacita Foundation Kobe and Vanessa Bryant helped build.

The necklace sale has been stopped on both the Mambaandmambacita and Zoë Chicco stores after selling out in record time. So Swift was not doing a charity showcase but rather honoring her late friend in whatever way she could.

Taylor Swift was long-time friends with the late Lakers great. During her sold-out show at the Staples Center in 2015, Bryant joined Swift on stage to unveil a banner saying ‘Most sold out performance’ at the legendary venue. A post from Bryant commemorating the moment was also posted on his official Instagram account.

Immediately after his death, the singer put out a tweet: 

My heart is in pieces hearing the news of this unimaginable tragedy. I can’t fathom what the families are going through. Kobe meant so much to me and to us all. Sending my prayers, love, and endless condolences to Vanessa and the family and anyone who lost someone on that flight.

Swift invited Vanessa and her two daughters to the LA stop of her Era’s tour. She gave a heartwarming surprise to Bryant’s youngest daughter, Bianka, during the show.

Taylor Swift honored her late great friend. And she did it in the best way she thought of. Wearing a necklace with her late friend’s motto is nothing short of what friendships should be.
