When asked about the particular season at that time, Brown used to regularly take issue with Iverson’s stance on practice, and Iverson wasn’t having any of it.

Larry Brown had assumed Iverson was drunk. “I assume he went and fooled around somewhere.” However, Iverson denied these claims. Having had enough of allegations being raised against him, Iverson was still grieving from the murder of his best friend, Rahsaan Langeford, who was shot seven months ago. His death was on Iverson’s mind throughout the 2001-02 season, and just a day before the famous press conference, the murder trial for Langeford had begun.

That being said, Iverson’s comments on the matter showcases just what he went through throughout that entire season. Having to fight with his inner self to find piece, Iverson still stepped on the court to find his best. Perhaps such an instance justifies why stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo have always wanted to be like the Sixers’ legend.
