Allen Iverson urges Giannis Anteokounmpo to join the Warriors

Giannis Antetokounmpo is thriving with the Milwaukee Bucks as they continue their charge against the Boston Celtics in Game 7, to defend their 2021 NBA crown. Imagine the scary trio of Golden State Warriors, Splash Brothers and Dray Magic now add to that overflowing stardom the athleticism of Giannis and the Warriors might just explode. Giannis was great during the regular season, even making all the merits to win his back-to-back MVP award but once he made it to the postseason, things fell apart for Giannis and his Bucks, suffering a painful loss in the second round at the hands of the Miami Heat. To be honest, Giannis with the Warriors would be nightmarish for the league. We saw how Kevin Durant teamed up with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, and the Warriors formed one of the most intimidating, successful dynasties in NBA history, albeit it only lasted a few seasons.

On the ‘All The Smoke‘ Podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, the former Philadelphia 76ers legend ,Iverson hoped to see Giannis to join the Warriors, repeatedly saying “I want him to go to Golden State, man.”

Iverson had the entire Bay Area supporting his wishes, hoping it would come true. The Greek Freak joining the franchise would undoubtedly put them back on the top of the NBA mountain. With a superstar talent like Giannis next to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, it would be very difficult to beat the Warriors. Iverson is one of the best players ever to miss out on a ring and we could see where his advice was coming from, he wanted a marvelous talent in the form of Giannis to be surrounded by the best in the world in order for him to win a Championship.

The Warriors have built a winning culture that few organizations have been able to muster up in league history. They have become a hotbed for trade and free agency rumors as just about every star has a reason to join Golden State. Giannis had come off his second-straight MVP season and his first Defensive Player of the Year win, at just 25 years old and played better basketball than anyone in the league at that moment.

However the chances looked bleak because the Warriors were well over the hard cap of $138 million going into the 2020-21 season and adding another supermax player such as Giannis to the roster seemed financially impossible.

He was eligible to sign a record-breaking supermax extension with the Bucks in the 2020 offseason, but until pen is put to paper, anything could still have happened. If the 25-year-old opts to decline the extension, that would certainly send the entire league into a frenzy. Fast Forward into 2022, He did extend his stay at Milwaukee.

Now Giannis is an NBA Champion with the Bucks, breaking the franchise’s 50-year wait for an NBA title. Although Iverson’s dream may not come true in the near future, we can only think about the terror the league would feel when they see Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Giannis all coming at them, there would be no point in playing against them !
