The future of the Philadelphia 76ers’ roster hangs in the balance, especially after strong remarks made by former NBA player and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins on the “First Take” show. There are more rumors of a potential revamp after the Sixers’ heartbreaking exit from the Eastern Conference semifinals this past season.

With James Harden, who led the NBA in assists per game at 10.7, strengthening the team, the 76ers were in a good place for a successful season. Their run to the Eastern Conference semifinals saw them edge past the Boston Celtics with a 3-2 lead. But everything started to go against them. Despite the home-court advantage in Game 6, the Sixers fell in the final two matchups of the series.

James Harden’s arrival was initially hailed as the push Philadelphia needed to secure a championship. But with the season ending in what many view as an underachievement, calls for restructuring have grown louder.

Perkins also emphasized the potential of guard Tyrese Maxey, suggesting that if changes were to be made, the Sixers should focus on building around him. “I would start building around Tyrese Maxey. Because look, Joel Embiid has to be tired,” he added.

In the midst of these debates, James Harden has been publicly dissatisfied with the Sixers’ management, notably expressing his issues with general manager Daryl Morey.

Joel Embiid, celebrated as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for 2022-23, adds another layer to the unfolding scenario. Perkins’ remarks hint at possible unrest from Embiid, prompting discussions about the team’s next steps. As the off-season unfolds, the 76ers’ course of action remains to be seen, leaving fans and experts eagerly watching.
