LeBron James’ place on the NBA’s Mount Rushmore could be taken by Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, according to a recent bold prediction made by ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, if Curry defeats James in the Western Conference playoffs and goes on to win his fifth title.

However, Smith’s colleagues Brian Windhorst and Jay Williams refuted his take on Curry overtaking the Los Angeles Lakers star amongst the NBA’s best players of all time. Windhorst, in particular, expressed his frustration and called Smith’s claim “grade-A insanity.”

“Mr. Smith, please come home,” Windhorst said. “You’ve been in California for too long. Too much sun, too much blue skies, too much 75 degrees, come back to the cold gray of the Northeast, the gritty streets. You’ve lost it a little bit. This is grade-A insanity.”

“I’ve been waiting to say this line to you for so long,” Williams said to Smith. “Stay off the weed, Stephen A. You know how I know you? You know how I know you give clickbait? You get people talking. You didn’t even make the claim that he is going to be in the top five — top four in the Mount Rushmore. You just said, ‘The discussion.”

LeBron James’ achievements in the league are undeniable, as he holds the NBA’s all-time leading scorer title and has four NBA Finals MVPs to his name. In contrast, Curry has just one NBA Finals MVP. Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless even pointed out that James has statistically dominated Curry in their matchups against each other in the NBA Finals.

With a convincing victory in Game 2, the Golden State Warriors evened their Western Conference semifinal series against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors came out strong and destroyed the Lakers by 27 points, 127-100, after losing Game 1 at home.

The Warriors fought back vigorously and scored 84 points in the second and third quarters to pull away from the Lakers, who had a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Klay Thompson stood out, scoring 30 points on eight made three-pointers for a stellar performance. Anthony Davis, who dominated in Game 1, was destroyed by the Warriors, scoring just 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Warriors, who needed the victory, will be hoping to keep winning in Game 3. The burden will be on both teams to seize the lead in the following game, with the series now tied at one game each.

It is still unclear whether Curry will be able to lead the Warriors to another title and whether he will be able to bring down LeBron James’ legend in the league as the series heats up. Whatever the outcome, basketball fans worldwide anticipate a thrilling series between the Warriors and the Lakers.
