The Golden State Warriors took a tough loss against the Lakers in Game 3. Following a Game 2 victory, the Dubs who are not comfortable in road games had quite the same problem in Game 3. No player from the Dubs actually stepped up in this game. The Warriors led by as many as 11 points, though after the final buzzer, the Lakers prevailed, 127-97. LeBron James had yet another prevailing matchup against his old rival team.

Anthony Davis led the way for the Lakers, as he put up 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. For the Dubs, Stephen Curry scored 23 points, being the only one to score 20+ in the game. The Lakers had some great runs in this game to assert themselves over the Warriors. Though during the game, Dubs’ veteran, Andre Iguodala wasn’t happy with the referees not noticing a violation.

Midway through the second quarter, the Lakers would score in transition to cut the lead to three. Initiated by Austin Reeves, who threw the ball to LeBron, as he scored the bucket on Draymond Green. The Dubs’ immediate reaction to this layup was that James had traveled. LeBron had planted his pivot foot as he was about to spin, though he hops before he would actually spin on his defender. This gets him closer to the bucket, after which he would take the two steps for the layup.

Andre Iguodala had noticed this traveling violation, and he then confronted the referee for the no-call. The game moves on fast and to blow the whistle on such play is quite difficult for the referees, as they would mostly look out for fouls in traffic and not the offensive players’ pivot foot. Iguodala even gave the referee a demonstration of how James’ hop step was before he would spin on his defender.

As great as King James is in his craft, he does lack the basic rules sometimes. In the modern NBA, traveling violations are called the least. The game pretty is fast-paced, and it gets tougher for the referees to notice such calls. Knowing the basics of pivot foot and the two steps to a layup is something that’s taught in the very beginning.

Though even professional players tend to forget such rules. Pleading to the referees after the play or after the whistle is blown is pretty much meaningless unless it was an uncalled foul. It does go to prove that referees do miss calls, and most of the time, it’s tough to notice for not only them but the majority of the spectators watching as well.
