“I wanted to show that I’m doing better over here” Andrew Wiggins expresses desire for revenge vs LeBron James’ Cavs

Andrew Wiggins and Lebron James

Andrew Wiggins was previously seen as LeBron James’s chosen successor because of his jaw-dropping highlights that displayed his incredible athleticism, the Canadian adolescent nicknamed “Maple Jordan” would become a prodigy. The anticipation surrounding Wiggins’ arrival at the University of Kansas didn’t die down, with NBA fans hoping to “tank for Wiggins” in order to save their team. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Wiggins No. 1 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft before trading him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love when James decided to sign with the Cavs.

Wiggins, unfortunately, was never able to consistently play at a star-caliber level in Minnesota. He showed sparks, but the pressure and the atmosphere were too much for him. Minnesota eventually made it a high priority to get rid of Wiggins’ which resulted in yet another trade for the 24-year-old. Wiggins was traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for D’Angelo Russell.

Andrew Wiggins is proving the doubters wrong on the greatest stage of his career. During the Warriors’ NBA Finals run, the former No. 1 pick has excelled in his reduced position, making an impact on both ends of the court. Wiggins’ role with Golden State is to be a problem on defense and knock down open shots nailing 39.8% of his catch-and-shoot threes in the 2021-22 season. Wiggins is averaging 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 block, and 0.9 steals in the postseason while shooting 54.8 percentage. Wiggins has likely been the Warriors’ most impactful and consistent rotation piece during the postseason, along from Stephen Curry.

One of the best storylines to follow this postseason has been Andrew Wiggins’ continued improvement and realization of his potential. While his numbers are comparable, Wiggins is demonstrating his worth in the games that matter the most. Wiggins isn’t the superstar that supporters expected when he first joined the Association, but he shines in his secondary role. With a title on the line, Wiggins’ growth is taking place in real time, and he helped swing the series momentum back to Golden State.
