Anonymous NBA executive suggests New York Knicks to acquire former face of franchise Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo Anthony will go down as one of the most efficient scorers in NBA history. Since being a free agent this season Carmelo Anthony still remains without a team. Although Anthony failed to win any NBA championships with Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks, Carmelo has led both teams in playoffs. But since being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Carmelo’s NBA career has been in constant jeopardy.
Heavy.com‘s senior insider, Sean Deveney was in a recent conversation with an Eastern Conference executive, who suggested that the New York Knicks should bring back the former franchise superstar. When Sean asked the reason for such a proposition, he said, “Like, why not just sign Melo already? If they make a trade and they wind up with a roster spot, they’ve got to do that,” the exec told Deveney. “They need a good story. He needs a good ending. Make it happen, right?”
In a recent interview, former Knicks and Anthony’s coach said that if he was a head coach in the league, he would have signed him. Despite a number of disagreements on the court, Woodson still holds a lot of respect for players of Carmelo’s talent.
Last season, with the Lakers, Carmelo averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while he shot 44.1% from the field and 37.7% from the 3-point line. What does not make sense to many sports analysts right now is the fact that many players who performed even worse than Anthony are still on the roster while he sits at home. Among the scoring leaders on the Lakers’ roster, Carmelo was 5th and had 11 games with either 20 or more than 20 points. Carmelo Anthony is an all-time great, he can be used as a spot shooter and he can easily create a shot for himself.
Since joining the New York Knicks in 2011 till his last year in 2017, Carmelo Anthony played a total of 412 games with the Knicks. During his historic career at the Knicks, Anthony averaged 24.7 points and 7.0 rebounds. From 2011 to 2017 Carmelo was selected to the All-Star team every year. Currently, he is the 7th leading scorer for the Knicks. Earlier this year, Marc Berman from New York Post reported that there were discussions within the New York Knicks to sign Anthony, but since the cap space was fully used Knicks could not sign Carmelo.
Carmelo Anthony could be playing in Taiwan if NBA doesn’t work out
Carmelo Anthony might get a call from Taiwan, as the reports suggest. Huang Chiao-Web and James Lo of Focus Taiwan have reported that the Tainan TSG Ghost Hawks of the T1 League are planning to sign Anthony. TSG Ghost Hawks head coach Liu Meng-Chu confirmed their intention to sign the former Knicks star. Interestingly, Dwight Howard, Anthony’s teammate in Los Angeles also signed with Taoyuan Leopards in hope of reviving his career in the NBA.
Signing with the Taiwanese team would not only give Anthony a substantial amount of time on the court, and money but also an opportunity to prove to teams in the NBA that he is still relevant in the league. Carmelo Anthony was the 3rd overall pick in the 2003 draft, which had LeBron James as the number 1 draft. Anthony is 11th among all-time scoring leaders in the NBA with 28,289 points and has also won a scoring title in the 2012-13 season.
