The Los Angeles Lakers vs the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day was supposed to be a battle all fans wanted to watch. The league favorite Celtics vs the never-say-die Lakers was sure to be must-watch TV.
The game, however, was a one-sided affair with the Celtics going on to win easily. Anthony Davis put up 40 points for the Lakers in their losing effort. What stood out was the lack of help from the rest of the Lakers lineup. While the Celtics starters all had at least 18 points, the Lakers did not contribute much.
The Lakers also did not have the fire that the Celtics had. They missed multiple opportunities, made defensive errors, and failed to put in enough hustle. Had the nitty gritty things been taken care of, the narrative could have been different.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 40 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. LeBron James chimed in with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. This was not enough to topple the Celtics, heavily favored to go to the NBA Finals. Kristaps Porzingis led the Celtics with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists. Jayson Tatum added 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The crucial part is, that the rest of the three starters, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday, each dropped 18 points at least. The overall team effort was evident in their 126-115 win. Despite having similar rebound numbers, the Celtics had more assists, blocks, steals, and fewer turnovers than the Lakers.
Fans are voicing their concerns about the Lakers
