“Got beef with 2nd half of basketball games” Anthony Davis attempts only two field goals in second half as Lakers plummet against Cavaliers

The Los Angeles Lakers’ woes continued on Sunday against the Cavaliers. Anthony Davis and the Lakers fell short against the Cavs at 100-114. The Lakers outscored an opponent (36-30) in the first quarter for the first time this season as Anthony Davis went 4-for-5 from the field. But the Lakers scored only 36 points in the third and fourth quarters combined, and Davis only went 1-for-2 in the second half.
Anthony Davis did not come out to talk to the reporters after the game. When Darvin Ham was asked about Davis’s situation and him not having looks in the 2nd half, Ham said, “These guys are not rookies.” Ham essentially explained that the veterans on his team have free reign to course-correct as they deem fit and that includes Davis too. “We have a playbook. We have a menu and a bunch of sets where AD can be featured… You have to just be organized,” said the head coach. And, when point guard Russell Westbrook was asked about AD’s situation, “I don’t know whose primary job it is to do that, to be honest,” he said. “I’ll leave it up to the coaches to figure out the best way for them to utilize him,” continued Brodie.
After halftime for the second consecutive game, Davis’ performance dropped. He scored only two points on 1-for-4 shooting after the break in Friday’s dreadful defeat to the Utah Jazz, ruining a night that had begun with him scoring 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting in the first half. Westbrook also added, “When I’m in, I do the best job I can in making reads, try to make the game easier for him when I’m in.” Some of the fans took to Twitter to call out Davis for his 2nd half slump, one even said: “AD got beef with the 2nd half of basketball games“. You can find some more reactions here below:
Davis himself has been far from looking aggressive, which might be due to his recent back problem. Ham also said he wants Davis and LeBron to be aggressive. “He’s got my blessing to scream out, call his own number,” Ham said. “We tried to get him going, tried to get Bron going on some post actions and some step-ups and pick-and-roll stuff. It’s not like we’re not trying.”
Anthony Davis thinks other teams fear Los Angeles Lakers, but LeBron has another opinion
Talking to the media on Saturday Anthony Davis said that the Lakers are a much better team than what their stats show. “We’re not the team that our record shows,” he said after Lakers’ practice on Saturday. “Any given night our team can play very well and explode for a big night… I know teams fear us, for sure. We just got to continue to apply pressure.”
Whereas Lakers’ superstar LeBron James had a different but more realistic opinion on the Lakers’ standing and condition right now. “Our record is our record,” he said Sunday. “We played some great teams, some really good teams so far to start the season, but our record is our record.” LeBron is not entirely wrong in his opinion because the shooting woes have continued with the Lakers and the bench has barely any depth. Talking about Davis on the offense LeBron added, “Tt starts with A.D. and getting him more attention…but each game has its own challenges.” He also added it was important “to make sure he touches the ball throughout the course“.
Both Davis and Westbrook scored 19 points for the Lakers behind LeBron James who led the Lakers’ scoring with 27 points. Lately, LeBron has also been having trouble shooting the ball, while Davis has been struggling with his back. To the relief of the Lakers, Westbrook has reignited himself in the last 4 games and has been providing some good offense to the Lakers, but that has not been enough.
