The Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies added their names to the growing number of teams engaging in an exciting round of games on Tuesday night’s NBA. However, a heated moment involving Lakers superstar Anthony Davis set the tone for the rest of the contest.
At five minutes left in the first quarter, Davis got tangled up with Grizzlies’ Santi Aldama. After the Memphis player’s refusal to let go of the Lakers star’s hand, he was shoved to the floor.
Following Santi Aldama and Anthony Davis‘ brief skirmish, Grizzlies guards Desmond Bane approached the Lakers star, and the two butted heads before D’Angelo Russell pull his teammate away to avoid tempers boiling over.
Following the heated moment, Taylor Jenkins, head coach of the Grizzlies, vented out his disappointment at Aldama receiving a technical foul for his involvement in the skirmish. When tempers finally settled, the Lakers continued to build on their strong start and dismantled the Grizzlies 134-107. Davis and LeBron James had quiet outings, scoring 19 and 16 points, respectively. Russell, who stopped Davis from getting ejected was the star of the show. The Lakers guard finished the game with 24 points, and five assists, while Rui Hachimura came off the bench to score 23 points in 24 minutes. With this win, the Lakers improved to 2-0 in the NBA in-season tournament.
Ja Morant reacts to Anthony Davis fight with Grizzlies teammates with cryptic emojis
While tempers boiled over during the battle between the Lakers and Grizzlies, Ja Morant, who continues to serve his 25-game suspension, posted cryptic stuff on social media. The troubled guard posted a smiling emoji following Anthony Davis’ fight with his teammates.
The suspended star posted:
The Grizzlies dropped to 2-9 without Morant and Steven Adams, who suffered a season-ending knee injury before the start of the 2023-24 NBA season. With Morant’s return still 14 games away, the Grizzlies have to find a way to win some games and stay afloat for a chance at a playoff spot. The situation in Memphis is grim and there’s no respite in sight for the Grizzlies.
