With Karl-Anthony Towns back in good health, the Minnesota Timberwolves hope to make a deep playoff run with their power trio comprising Anthony Edwards, KAT, and Rudy Gobert. However, that’s not the only goal on Ant’s mind. He wants to face and defeat the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs.
In an interview with HEIR, Ant was asked about his goals for the next season. Edwards replied that he aims to improve their postseason performance and specifically wants to confront the Warriors in the playoffs. He mentioned that this desire is fueled, in part, by Draymond Green‘s trash-talking toward his opponents.
“Definitely going back to the playoffs, and going further in the playoffs.…I want to play the Warriors [in the playoffs]. I want to get to the Warriors. Wherever they’re at, I want to get to them,” said Edwards.“Definitely going back to the playoffs, and going further in the playoffs.…I want to play the Warriors [in the playoffs]. I want to get to the Warriors. Wherever they’re at, I want to get to them,” said Edwards.
Ant, leading the Timberwolves, fell in the first round to the eventual champions, the Denver Nuggets, eliminating them. T-Wolves fans were impressed by their young star’s explosive performance. If their trio can stay healthy for most of the next season, they have a good chance of achieving Ant’s aspirations.
Anthony Edwards signs a rookie max deal with the Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards as the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. In just three years with the Wolves, he established himself as the franchise player, surpassing his teammate Karl Anthony Towns. Billy Duffy and Joe Branch of ESPN reported that the T-Wolves secured their star by signing him to a rookie max deal.
Anthony has been stellar for the Timberwolves, averaging 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists last season. He also stepped up against the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs, averaging 31.6 points against the eventual champions, which led to his first All-Star selection.
Edwards signed the rookie max deal, which values up to $260 million over five years. He joined Charlotte Hornets’ guard LaMelo Ball, Indiana Pacers’ guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Memphis Grizzlies’ Desmond Bane as the fourth member of his draft class to sign a rookie max deal.
Minnesota, along with the Phoenix Suns, is one of the two teams in the league with three max deals on their payroll. This situation leaves them with little to no wiggle room to sign more players and improve the depth of their rosters. With Ant, KAT, and Gobert locked up for a long time, it will be interesting to see how far the T-Wolves can progress in the next season.
