The Minnesota Timberwolves went up against fellow top-seed Western Conference playoff contenders, the Los Angeles Clippers.

Owing to their playoff seedings, this was the game of the night. As such, tensions were expected to be high. Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards displayed those high tensions. He got into a verbal tussle with a referee after being called for a foul.

Towards the end of the third quarter, the Los Angeles Clippers moved up the court with the ball. Clippers guard Bones Hyland tried to keep the ball away as Anthony Edwards was trying to reach in to knock the ball out.

This is when the referee blew the whistle and called the foul on Edwards. The video shows Edwards arguing with the referee, claiming that Hyland was tugging at his shorts. The altercation led to the commentators also suggesting that Edwards was not in the right to argue about that foul.

The video clip also shows that Edwards was wrapping his arms around Hyland, which automatically leads to a foul. Maybe Edwards thought that his altercation would somehow convince the referee to overturn the call. But it was not to be. Edwards tried to plead his innocence to the other referees who were near the sidelines.

Video replays of the play showed Edwards fouling Hyland. After this, Edwards patted the referee and walked off. The problem with that altercation is that had Edwards lingered with his argument, the referee could have called a technical foul on him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Clippers were tied at that point. With that being said, it seems like the heat of the moment got to Edwards, leading to this verbal tussle.

Anthony Edwards rallies the Minnesota Timberwolves to victory over the Los Angeles Clippers

The Minnesota Timberwolves were trailing early in the game. At one point in the 2nd quarter, the Los Angeles Clippers led by as much as 22 points.

Starting the 2nd half, Anthony Edwards went on a charge. He rallied the Timberwolves back from that deficit to tie the game around the point of the foul by Edwards.

The Timberwolves continued to push and eventually won the game 118-100. Edwards led all players with 37 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. With this win, the Timberwolves managed to avoid losing their third straight game this season. The Timberwolves avoided this loss by rallying back from their biggest deficit in more than 10 years.

Anthony Edwards’s desire to win is the reason he was so animated during his argument with the referee. He wanted to ensure that they did not lose three straight games. With the Western Conference top seed still up for grabs, every win matters.
