The Minnesota Timberwolves, who have started the 2023 season in unbelievable form, suffered a nasty loss at home against the OKC Thunder. And it was rookie sensation Anthony Edwards, who didn’t shy away from taking responsibility for the team’s collapse. ANT came up with words that have shown how much of a leader he is ready to be for the Timberwolves side.

Edwards himself had a few missed chances during the game. He said the following after the 97-102 loss at home:

I got to look in the mirror. Because it’s me who generates most of the turnovers. You got to look in the mirror.

With the Timberwolves holding onto a slim lead in the final moments, Edwards was fouled and given an opportunity to extend their advantage. However, pressure seemed to get to the young guard as he missed all three free throws.

In hindsight, those missed free throws loomed large as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander top-scored with 33 points. The Thunder capitalized on the opportunity, outscoring Minnesota by a substantial margin in the final quarter, resulting in an impressive come-from-behind victory. A disappointing defeat meant they have now lost 12 games, but are top of the Western Conference and a contender for the title.

OKC breaks Timberwolves’ 4-game winning streak

It was quite an intense matchup as the Thunder triumphed over an in-form Minnesota Timberwolves side, putting an end to an impressive 4-game-winning streak. While the game took place at the Timberwolves’ home court, Target Center, it was the visiting side that emerged victorious with a final score of 102-97.

The Timberwolves, who now sit at 30-12 for the season, with a still-impressive 17-3 record on their home court, weren’t defensively resolute enough for the OKC rigorous offense. As for the Thunder, leading the charge for them was their point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was the star of the night, delivering 33 points, 6 assists, and 2 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves stars Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards contributed a total of 38 points. It was a hard-fought loss and the team alongside Edwards knows the value of losing games. But having shown a strong mentality this season already, fans do not have any reason to worry, just yet.
