Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards is touted as the next face of the NBA. So naturally, the current face of the NBA, LeBron James stands as a direct comparison.

Speaking to Speedy Morman on “360 With Speedy”, Anthony Edwards was asked which player is he looking forward to “cook” on the court. Edwards said he wants it to be LeBron James. According to him, James is currently the best player in the league, and he is looking forward to that opportunity. However, Edwards talks about how the Los Angeles Lakers guard him, which makes it difficult to play one-on-one with James.

Edwards is looking forward to the time when that chance of a one-on-one comes against LeBron.

Anthony Edwards has played 9 times against the Los Angeles Lakers since coming into the league. Throughout those 9 games, he has averaged 20.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists but he has not been able to go against LeBron James directly. Lakers guard Edwards with double teams as he is the most dangerous offensive player for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

A prime James would have taken Edwards one-on-one easily. James has mostly transitioned into a help defender to keep himself fresh in his 21st season. Edwards wants the Lakers to stop double-teaming him and allow him to duel James one-on-one.

Edwards is the star the NBA needs going forward

Anthony Edwards is playing in his 4th season since he got drafted No. 1 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has grown to effectively take over the bulk of the offensive duties from superstar teammate Karl Anthony-Towns. Analysts and fans have come to see Edwards as the future face of the NBA.

Edwards has also been likened to Michael Jordan. He stated that he does not want to be compared to Jordan who he considers the greatest player of all time. Rather, he wants to be respected for whatever he has done to date.

Edwards has nothing but respect for James. He still wants to relish the chance of trying to take down the league’s best while he is still playing at a high level. The future face of the NBA wants to win against the current face and just wants a chance.
