Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards made headlines for his gesture towards the Crypto Arena crowd during their game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Timberwolves were leading 98-94 with just over four minutes remaining in the game when Edwards hit a crucial three-pointer to extend their lead to seven points.

As Edwards made his way back to the Timberwolves‘ defensive end, he turned towards the Crypto Arena crowd and put his index finger to his lips, signalling for them to be quiet. The gesture, commonly known as “shushing,” was met with a mixed reaction from the crowd. Some fans seemed to take it in good humor, while others appeared to take offense.

Edwards’ gesture was reminiscent of similar incidents involving other players, such as Reggie Miller and Kobe Bryant. Both Miller and Bryant were known for their ability to rise to the occasion in clutch situations and quiet opposing crowds with their play on the court. Edwards’ gesture may have been a nod to these players and their legacy of excellence.

While Edwards’ gesture towards the Crypto Arena crowd may have garnered attention, it was his performance on the court that truly impressed. The 6-foot-4 guard finished the game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, leading the Timberwolves to a 110-102 victory over the Lakers.

Edwards’ scoring outburst included 5 three-pointers, with many of them coming at crucial moments in the game. His confidence and ability to hit shots from beyond the arc helped the Timberwolves maintain their lead and secure the win.

The impressive performance was just the latest in a string of strong outings for Edwards, who has been on a tear in recent weeks. Over his last 10 games, the former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 23.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, while shooting 43.8% from the field and 62.5% from three-point range.

Edwards’ continued improvement and development have been a bright spot for the Timberwolves this season. The team has struggled to find consistent success, but the young guard’s emergence as a scoring threat has given fans a reason to be hopeful for the future.

As Edwards continues to grow and mature as a player, his ability to take over games and make clutch plays will only become more valuable to the Timberwolves. And with performances like the one he had on Thursday night, it’s clear that the sky is the limit for the talented young guard.
