Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards is consistently lighting up the NBA. However, his one play in today’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies sent fans into a state of shock. The play reminded fans about a certain player who made his name with such moves.

In the third quarter with the Timberwolves lagging behind the Grizzlies, Edwards was one-on-one against Grizzlies forward Xavier Tillman. Due to Tillman’s exceptional defense, Edwards could not shake him off with hesitation moves. Edwards then dribbled to the right and stepped back to fake a jump shot that sent Tillman flying off. He then threw the ball onto the backboard, caught the bounce back, and finished with a two-handed dunk.

Anthony Edwards had to throw the ball off the backboard as the lane was clogged with two Grizzlies players under the basket. Had he tried to drive to the basket, neither one would have tried to stop him. So, he had to improvise. This mixture of high IQ, elite athleticism and court vision is not seen generally. The move brought out the exclamation points from the commentators as well.

Anthony Edwards scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half to rally the Timberwolves to a 118-103 win over the Grizzlies. He finished with 28 points, 5, rebounds, and 5 assists. The win sent the Timberwolves to a 30-11 record, increasing their lead in the Western Conference. The injury-ravaged Grizzlies fell to a 15-26 record despite leading most of the game.

Fans in the arena were sent into a frenzy when Edwards performed this move. The Timberwolves bench also could not believe what they had just witnessed. However, basketball fans around the world watching on their screens were left dumbfounded too.
