Austin Reaves’ career has been a complete rollercoaster ride, and he’s finally getting the correct recognition he deserves. He’s one of the few players to ball out in the league after going undrafted, putting glimpses of his sky-high potential on display. And the Los Angeles Lakers don’t regret giving him a chance as he is living up to the expectations and getting the job done. The guard has been putting up numbers across the board and has been instrumental in the Lakers’ success this season.

Austin Reaves and the Los Angeles Lakers recently advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals. They manhandled the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6 with an unexpected 40-point blowout win at 125-85 and won the series at 4-2. The game, which was supposed to be super competitive and close, turned out to be pretty one-sided. The Lakers took control of things and got the job done by shutting down the Grizzlies.

Austin Reaves helped the team build and maintain a good lead early in the game. And, through three quarters, they were leading the Grizzlies by 33 points as they came out in the second half to out-score the Grizzlies by 41-25 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was nothing but garbage time, with both teams’ bench balling out.

The Grizzlies completely disappeared once the Lakers started to ball out. Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks both were limited to only 10 points. On the other hand, D’Angelo Russell dropped 31 points, four assists, and two rebounds. He was backed by LeBron James (22 points) and Anthony Davis (14 rebounds and 16 points). Austin Reaves contributed with 11 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

After the game, Reaves correctly lived up to one of his many nicknames, “Hillbilly Kobe.” As in the post-game presser, he displayed his Mamba Mentality and is now locked in to ball out in the second round.

Austin Reaves is a smart guy and wants to be locked in. Even though they got rid of the trash-talking Grizzlies, he rightly knows that it isn’t the end. The road to winning the title is tough and long. So the team needs to be focused, and he has already sent out a message to the league during his post-game presser. The talented guard quoted: “It’s good to win the series but the job’s not finished.” This also proves that he really was a big Kobe guy growing up like many other players in the league;

Austin Reaves and the Los Angeles Lakers will now face either the Golden State Warriors or the Sacramento Kings (winner of Game 7) in the semifinals. That would be one of the most interesting series to watch as it can bring the defending champions as their opponents or the hungry underdogs who have finally made it to the postseason.

Austin Reaves, though, is high with hopes for his team, as describing them in a single word he said: “together.” And that’s the exact foundation required to become a championship-bound team.
