Charles Barkley on Bam Adebayo

Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Buttler made sure that Miami Heat were sailing in smooth waters as they take a 2-0 advantage in their series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Adebayo scored 23 points while Butler had 22 points and 12 assists, as they made sure the Philadelphia 76ers couldn’t handle the ‘Heat’ with a 119-103 win on Wednesday night, in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Victor Oladipo scored 19 points on his birthday and Tyler Herro added 18 more for the Heat.

These are long nights for Philadelphia 76ers as they await the arrival of their injured superstar Joel Embiid. Tyrese Maxey scored 34 points for Philadelphia, while Tobias Harris added 21 and 20 more from James Harden. “We’ve just got to go back to the drawing board and try to figure it out”, Maxey said as the action now shifts to Philadelphia for Game 3. All eyes on Friday will be on Joel Embiid and whether he could be ready for Game 3. The league’s scoring champion and MVP finalist is yet to recover from an orbital fracture and concussion suffered against the Toronto Raptors in Game 6. “We don’t have a big man right now”, Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers lamented.

Bam Adebayo is preparing for Joel Embiid

Bam Adebayo up against Joel Embiid

Bam Adebayo is taking complete advantage of the absence of Philadelphia’s ‘Achilles’, Joel Embiid. Without Embiid around, Bam Adebayo had his way with Philly as he did in Game 1 when he scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Neither of 76ers replacements, DeAndre Jordan and Paul Reed, could stand in the way of Bam being dominant in Game 2. Is his party going to be spoilt in Philadelphia when Joel Embiid returns ? The 5-time All Star, Charles Barkley certainly thinks so ! Analysing the game on ‘House Of Highlights’, Charles Barkley explained.

“The one thing that really sucks is the one weakness they have his size. Bam Adebayo is a terrific player but he’s only like 6’7″ somewhere like that and he got no chance against Joel. That’s the one thing that just really sucks. We can’t even get an example of how good the Heat are even though we know they got a good team because we can’t exploit their one weakness.” – Charles Barkley

The TNT analyst mentioned that Embiid could have exploited what Barkley believes the Heat’s biggest weakness, their lack of size, if he is available to play against Erick Spoelstra’s side. “It’s not easy to get playoff wins.” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said – “It’s not easy to get playoff wins. We had some great stretches, particularly defensively. We had some really good stretches offensively…. Our defense really carried us to the win, but we had some really timely offensive plays.”

The Miami Heat capitalized on Joel Embiid’s absence on the boards again, securing a 44-34 advantage in that department. That led to them bagging 21 points on second-chance opportunities. The series is far from over as going through Philadelphia will not be a cakewalk for the Heat, as Joel Embiid eyes his return and Tyrese Maxey looking great for the 76ers, we are in for a tough contest !
