“It’s business” – Bam Adebayo BLUNTLY responds to Damian Lillard’s expected trade to Heat

From time immemorial, there have been speculations of Damian Lillard being traded to the Miami Heat from the Portland Trail Blazers because of his request for it. If that dream of his comes true, he will be playing with the likes of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Lillard and Adebayo are long-time friends as they played for the USA team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and won the gold medal.

“We didn’t really have any conversations and banter…At the end of the day, we were there for the goal of winning the gold.” This is what Adebayo, at the youth clinic organized by him, said when asked about his bond with Lillard. Lillard, though, speaks of Adebayo as his homie. Talking on the Showtie podcast recently, Lillard said,“Bam Adebayo is my dawg…Bam is my dawg for real.” However, as Adebayo said, the duo never really talked about the possibility of playing together.

“We all have those types of imaginations, but at the end of the day, we all understand it’s business….But the biggest thing for us is that it could potentially happen.” As Adebayo was asked about his bond with Lillard, he immediately responded, doing away with the feelings of friendship shown by Lillard and calling it “business.” However, he later made it clear that they share a unique bond.

Although the only time the duo has ever played together was at the Olympics, they share a unique and interesting bond, as per Adebayo. When asked about the “dawg” remark that Lillard made a while ago, Adebayo said, “It just speaks to the volume of who I am as a person, For you to be able to say without basketball, I can really hang out with him.”

Comparing his own character to that of Lillard, Adebayo stated it as one of the reasons why the duo shared such a special bond. As per Adebayo, they share a lot of similar characteristics – being down-to-earth, not being the loudest people in the room, and presenting themselves. “Getting to talk to him and getting that chemistry with is Dame, just because I play center, he plays point guard,” is what Adebayo said when asked about Lillard.

As the Heat and Lillard’s agent make every move in the book to do a trade with the Trailblazers, it will be interesting to see whether or not they are able to succeed in their endless endeavor. But one thing is for sure, regardless of whether or not the trade is taken forward, Adebayo and Butler at the Heat will continue to be a blockbuster duo.
