Ben Simons vs the Pelicans

NBA fans could not really believe it when Ben Simmons fouled out in his first game for the team with only 4 points. In their opening game on Wednesday night, the New Orleans Pelicans thrashed the Brooklyn Nets 130-108.

The Brooklyn Nets opted to switch things up in February when they traded James Harden for divisive former Philadelphia 76ers player Ben Simmons. The Pelicans and Nets game on Wednesday night featured the return of Zion Williamson and Simmons, two of the most intriguing young players in the NBA, with just one of them turning in a much better performance than the other.

With four points and a foul in 23 minutes, Simmons’ debut against the Pelicans was a disappointment and Williamson dominated the game with 25 points. This terrible performance received a hilarious response from the NBA fans around the world.

The Pelicans comes out on top with the win in their seasoner opener against Nets

In a lopsided game in Brooklyn on both of their season openers, the Pelicans destroyed the Nets 130-108 thanks to a combined 53 points from Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Williamson, who had a season ruined by injuries, was particularly good early and looked frightening at his best.

He finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in a great comeback from the forward and scored 22 of his 25 points in the paint, proving to be an incredible powerhouse inside. Ingram led the Pelicans with 28 points, while CJ McCollum added 21 for a strong start in which the Pelicans outrebounded Brooklyn 61-39 where Jonas Valanciunas led the rebounding with 13.

In the defeat, Patty Mills scored 16 points, Kyrie Irving managed 15 points on 6-for-19 shooting, going 0 for 6 from 3-point range, and Kevin Durant had a game-high 32 points and 4 blocks. Ben Simmons, the former No.1 pick, had eight points, four rebounds, three steals, and was very active defensively in the first quarter, but was fouled out in his first game wearing a Nets jersey.

In the 2nd quarter, the Nets were overall more threatening as Simmons continued to struggle to establish an offensive rhythm while staying busy handling and rebounding the ball.

NBA fans react to Ben Simmons fouling out in his first game with the Nets

In exchange for James Harden, the Nets received Ben Simmons, who made his team debut yesterday but had a terrible night. When the game was through, Simmons had played 23 minutes, had four points, five rebounds, five assists, three turnovers, and fouled out in his first game wearing a Nets uniform. The stat line isn’t impressive, and fouling out so close to the game’s conclusion is unacceptable as many people commented on Simmons’ performance as well as the Nets’ 22-point loss against the Pelicans.

This is how the NBA world reacted to Simmons’ awful performance:

Although the season is lengthy, Ben Simmons will undoubtedly need to ramp it up if he wants to play a significant role in Brooklyn’s overall chemistry. Given that their time of striving to be a title-winning team may be coming to an end, the Nets may have to spend the entire season looking over Steve Nash’s shoulder.

The first game of an 82-game season hardly predicts how the year will go, but this was as dreadful a start to the season as the Nets could have had in Brooklyn. Time is running out to win a championship and as the season goes on, hopefully Ben Simmons develops a game routine.
