Ben Simmons was a force on both ends of the court during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, after Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals, he didn’t suit up for the team ever again thereafter and was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for James Harden. Now, he has been working to rehabilitate from a back injury and return to his previous form.
In a recent interview with Marc J Spears of Andscape, Simmons reflected on his time off the court and his rehabilitation from the injury. He stated that he doesn’t intend to return as the same player he was last season and that he would “destroy the version he was last year” if he played against that version now. He expressed his expectation to come back and dominate players again, as he did during his early years.
“For me to come back and dominate people will be great. I don’t intend to return as the same player I was last [season], because that’s not even close to where I am. I get excited because I’m like, ‘Damn, I would sh*t on the player I was last year,” Simmons said.
Simmons has been working out and improving his game to help his team reach the highest heights. A prime Ben Simmons would make the Nets a formidable team, with Mikal Bridges already on the team and Nicolas Claxton guarding the rim, making it challenging for any team to score against a defense anchored by Simmons, Bridges, and Claxton.

Videos of Ben Simmons’ workouts and jump shot practices have been going viral for a long time, but his claims in interviews don’t entirely convince fans. This time was no different, as fans trolled Simmons for his comments, calling him a loser and expressing doubt about his statements. Here are a few of the reactions:
During his peak, Simmons was an All-NBA caliber player. He was also selected to three consecutive All-Star teams from 2019 to 2021, earned two All-Defense Team selections, and won Rookie of the Year in 2018. He was regarded as one of the best two-way guards in the league and drew comparisons to Magic Johnson due to his size and ability to play point guard.
Nets fans are hopeful that the Simmons he promises will emerge, as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving left their team last season. The young core of the Nets will be responsible for maintaining the team’s relevance and contending for the playoffs. The upcoming season could potentially mark a resurgence in Simmons’ career and bring him relief from the scrutiny he faces from fans.
