In an interview, (current) Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons spoke about a messed-up dunk against the Atlanta Hawks in a crunch game situation costed his reputation in Philly. Ben was speaking on ‘The Old Man and The Three’ podcast to JJ Reddick, where he explained about the big blunder. Back then, he was still playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, and his team not only lost the match because of his mistake but were even knocked out of the playoffs.

Ben Simmons said, “In the moment, I just spun, and I’m assuming Trae is going to come over quicker. So I’m thinking he’s going to come full-blown, and I see Matisse (Thybulle) going – You know, Matisse is athletic, can get up. So, I’m thinking okay, quick pass. He’s got to flush it, not knowing how much space there was. It happened so quick that you just make a read. He added, “And in the playoffs, you need to make the right decisions majority of the time. And for that moment, I mean, bro, it happened, and I was like, ‘Ok. **** now we got to make another play. That’s how I’m thinking. Then I didn’t realize how, you know, everyone was posting, and I’m like, it was that big?”

Ben Simmons faced extensive backlash after this incident. He was mocked and criticized by the Phila fans. Head coach Doc Rivers questioned Simmons’ ability in the postgame press conference, and team president Daryl Morey started his attempts to trade the guard player after the season ended. After that, Simmons never turned up for the 76ers. He will now play the upcoming season for the Brooklyn Nets.

Ben Simmons clearly stated his mental health issues during the 2021-2022 NBA season. He also admitted that he had hit bottom low by the time his team reached the Atlanta Hawks series in the second round of the 2022 NBA playoffs. Simmons felt he was all alone and lacked support as the criticism about his struggles in that series grew deeper and deeper. Ben Simmons couldn’t make a return for the Phila 76ers after his team bowed out of the league, and he forced his way out. He was then traded to the NBA team Brooklyn Nets.
