Bill Burr the top-tier comedian just added to the evergreen topic of referees controlling the Game and not players. As many believe they decide who wins and who losses. The comedian to rides with them as he is a firm believer as he said “NBA is rigged”. The referees have always been under controversies for their calls and officiating as the fanbase of either team is left disappointed and the blame game starts. But there have also been some moments where it all seems right and it’s very clear that the refs are getting the job done. Now adding, to it the perfect breakdown by Bill Burr regarding the refs being too powerful it looks quite interesting and one may believe it. But nothing can be confirmed.
The season already has seen many such moments where the refs spiced it up by calling fouls and dragging the game. So some trolls and criticism on them are real and understandable. The most recent one was during the Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals where the officials erased a three-pointer by Max Strus and eventually, the Boston Celtics won the game over the Miami Heat and advanced to the NBA Finals to go all in and against of Stephen Curry led Golden State Warriors. Bill Burr who should be happy for his favorite team getting a trip to the NBA Finals and even winning Game 1 by coming back bigger and stronger in the fourth quarter just called it all rigged and said that the Celtics fit in the script for the business.
Discussing the league being rigged Bill Burr quoted: “I also think the NBA is also low-key rigged. Why does that surprise any NBA fan? I don’t know how many times you can watch a game, a team goes up by 20, then all of a sudden, ticky-tack foul, all of a sudden, they’re in the penalty. The ref’s job’s to get down to about 5 to 7 at halftime. And then the ESPN talking head comes on and says, ‘I’ll tell you right now, I’m really concerned about that team that used to be up by 20!’”

Bill Burr on NBA being rigged
Bill Burr further claimed how it all works as he gave a detailed breakdown of the whole game and quoted: “First half of the third quarter is for the players, and then the referees assess what they need to do to make it come down to the final two minutes. You watch the first quarter, they let the teams play. Second-quarter belongs to the refs, from the half of the third quarter on… I’ve said it is rigged forever.”
Further Bill Burr being a Celtics fan said: “We fit the script this year! It’s massaged to be exciting. The refs just have way too much power.” All these words of him had Jimmy Kimmel and the audience shocked as many didn’t agree with him at the start but after the breakdown and Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Finals things looked quite similar to them and suddenly many ride with his take.
