“I’ll hand over one of my championship rings to you” Bill Russell decided to offer one of his 11 Championship Rings to Kevin Garnett

Bill Russell was one of the most underrated All-Time greats. The legend helps elevate the name of the Boston Celtics as one of the greatest organisations in the history of the league. Winning one championship is definitely considered a great thing but winning 11 of the franchise’s 18 titles is an absolute marvel. That is exactly what the legend did during his time.
After retiring, he worked as an NBA coach and then also continued to mentor several young guns that stepped into the league. Unfortunately, his time on earth had come to an end roughly a day ago. The Hall of Famer had a natural death at the age of 88 leaving the NBA World in disbelief.

The Celtics were a dominant team during the 2000s. Kevin Garnett played a very pivotal role on the team as one of the greatest power forwards of all time. Prior to winning his first and only title, he had the honor to interviewing Bill Russell. The two were almost in tears during the conversations.
In the video released by ESPN, Russell told Garnett, “I think that you’re gonna win at least 2 or 3 championships. If you don’t but I see you playing the way you should play, I’ll share one of my rings. This is a genuine friendship thing I’m talking about. If you play the way you play, and you dedicate yourself to doing it, they will come. You have no idea how proud I am of you.”

Those words Bill Russell had uttered to KG put the drive and passion into him which eventually won the Celtics a championship. Doc Rivers, who was their head coach at that time highlighted a few aspects on legends like Russell. “I’ve never seen a bunch of players… they were as happy for us as they won it.”

“It was amazing seeing how emotional they were when we won. It just thought me a lot about winning and the sacrifice you have to do to win.” The legend’s presence will forever be in the midst of his successors. The Celtics have been extremely successful over the last season and could be crowned champions soon.
