“I think he has potential to become Top 75 All Time” Bill Simmons makes HUGE comparison between Evan Mobley and 5x NBA Champion

Evan Mobley had a phenomenal first season in the NBA, and while the emerging star could not land the prestigious Rookie Of The Year Award coming a close second. He impressed a lot of people including popular author and journalist Bill Simmons who already has him as an all-time great.

On The Bill Simmons Podcast, the titular host Bill Simmons discussed the recent trade for Donovan Mitchell and expressed his faith in Mobley and how the stage in Cleveland was set for him similarly how it was for Tim Duncan on the San Antonio Spurs more than a decade ago.

Simmons stated, “Really, the only guy in the last 25 years who walked into the perfect situation was Duncan. Where he comes in, he’s got (David) Robinson next to him, he’s got (coach Gregg) Popovich, they got veterans and they’re just immediately good. So, you look at Mobley like this is about as good of a situation for somebody that I think has a chance to be like a top 75 guy all time. I really think it’s in place for him, if he can stay healthy, so you can’t come up with a better situation.”

Tim Duncan is one of the all-time great players beloved by all fans. But what sets him apart from most players is how quickly he started dominating the league. In his first season alone, he lived up to the expectations winning The Rookie of The Year Award and even being selected for the All-NBA First Team. Duncan benefited greatly from legend Duncan Robinson and Coach Gregg Popovich who took great effort in building Duncan up. Simmons believes the current Cavaliers and Evan Mobley scenario is similar to Duncan and its all about the proper utilisation of it.

Cavaliers Looking To Go Far This Season

Cleveland traded Colin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Abgaji and several draft picks for Donovan Mitchell which makes them one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference alongside teams like Nets, Heat and Celtics. The roster of three all-stars will be a defining force as no other team except Golden State has that and will proof beneficial once the season starts. While it may be the case that for a while, it may be Mitchell’s team, The emerging star Evan Mobley is expected to only get better and is someone the Cavs have high hopes for.

Evan Mobley in his first season averaged 15 points per game, 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 steals in 69 games. With the hype built around him, The sophomore has a lot to prove and is only expected to improve and as Simmons pointed out, The Cavs can heavily contribute to his development.
