“My info is usually correct” Bill Simmons reveals surprise landing spot for Kevin Durant before season starts
Bill Simmons talks about Kevin Durant trade
The NBA world is waiting on the closing chapter of Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets. The player made his parting decision public early into the free agency, while re-insisted the same in a face-to-face meeting with the franchise owner. Many teams tried their packages to lure Brooklyn Nets into the deal, but no one could match the Nets’ Valuation, stalling further progress in the deal. But NBA analyst Bill Simmons believes that the trade is possible with a surprising contender for the trade. On “The Bill Simmons podcast,” Simmons said that he’s heard that the team he believes is going to land Durant is none other than Golden State Warriors.
Could a reunion of Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors still happen? Well, Simmons argues that he has ‘inside news’ as he said, “I’mma take a deep breath. I think that team is the Warriors,” Simmons said. “I can’t believe I’m saying that, but from the little birdies that I’ve heard – as you know I have little birdies; my information is usually correct – a guy by the name of (Warriors owner) Joe Lacob, you might’ve heard of him, (is) pretty enchanted by the dynasty possibilities right now.”
Will Kevin Durant join Golden State Warriors again?
Golden State Warriors is not a new team for Kevin Durant. He played in the Bay Area for 3 seasons, making it to the finals in all those years. He even won back-to-back titles with them and was crowned Finals MVP on both occasions. Since then the Warriors have not made any significant change in their core, rather added some more meaningful pieces that won the 2022 title. So joining the Warriors is a no-brainer for KD.
But from the Warriors’ point of view, it would be again a mega decision to add a 12-time All-star at expense of their youth or maybe parting way with a “fan favorite” player. Talking about the same in his podcast, Simmons continued, “You bring Durant back, and now it’s like, ‘Could we win the next three titles in a row?’ The thing is, they have the best assets for trade. They have the most that Brooklyn would be,like, ‘OK, that makes sense.’ And from the Golden State standpoint, you could actually say they would improve.”
The 52-year-old Simmons couldn’t give any confirmation addressing the trade package. But he confirms that the Warriors may need to break their “big 3” to land KD. He said, “The question for me, either Draymond (Green) or Klay (Thompson) has to be in that trade because if you’re them, you can’t trade Wiggins. Wiggins was your second-best guy in the finals. He does all this defensive stuff. You can’t lose that. You have to add KD. A, would they have the balls to trade Klay? And B, would they have the balls to trade Draymond?”
While Stephen Curry remains the franchise player and centerpiece for the Warriors, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson also had valuable contributions to their 4 championships. Both players are certainly fan favorites, and trading them would be a very difficult task for the Warriors’ front office.
But then again to become a Dynasty, tough decisions are needed. KD and the Warriors formed one of the most dangerous teams in NBA history, and adding him again would give them a clear shot at the championship in upcoming seasons. It’s also important to remember that the Warriors organization has always shown a willingness to do anything to win at the highest level.
As far as the Nets are concerned, they will also be benefitted. Trading “unwilled” Kevin Durant for some championship-experienced players would give them a fresh start. Golden State has all the possible options available to them to please the Nets, and if both parties can settle on a fixed price, the trade is very much on the cards.
