“I’m not kidnapped” Blake Griffin was mistakened to be abducted because of his father’s skin color
Blake Griffin was one of the most exciting players to watch at the peak of his career. He was a young All-Star who threw down crowd moving dunks and was a big on both sides of the court. But for the last few years, BG has been struggling to find his ability again as he is now reduced to a role player for the most part.
The Brooklyn Nets big man always had something special going on for himself be it on the court or outside the four boundaries. A little known fact is that he is partially black as well. The former dunk contest champion’s Tommt Griffin is black and his mother Gail Griffin is white.
Blake Griffin recalls when he was “mistakenly” abducted
The NBA has always stood up against the evils of racism and the oppressors of the black community. The league is predominantly filled with black man or mixed race individuals. The Nets forward however has experienced racism first hand during his childhood. On the Graham Bensinger show Blake Griffin revealed a story of a store clerk assuming he was kidnapped by his African-American father.
“I remember one time like a gas station clerk was kind of like questioning me and my brother like, ‘Are you guys good?’ We’re like ‘Yeah’ and he’s like ‘Where’s your dad?’ and we were like ‘Right there’ and he was like looking at us. I didn’t really think that much of it. I thought it was a weird interaction, but you don’t realize why until you think about it when you’re older and like ‘Oh, he thought my dad kidnapped us.”‘
