After defeating the Golden State Warriors 122-101 in Game 6 of their second-round playoff series, the Los Angeles Lakers have advanced to the Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers became the first Western Conference team to knock out the Warriors from the playoffs during the Steve Kerr era after taking an early 17-point lead in the first quarter they never looked back.

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith had predicted prior to the game that LeBron James and the Lakers were facing a must-win situation in Game 6. According to Smith, James had a 10-3 lifetime record in Game 6 when his team enters the game with a 3-2 series lead, and if he were to lose Game 6, the numbers suggested he would lose the series.

“LeBron James (is) 10-3 (in his) lifetime in Game 6 when his team enters the game with a 3-2 series lead,” Smith said. “The three losses that he had, he’s lost the Game 7 each time. So basically, the numbers say if LeBron loses tonight, he loses this series. He’s gotta win tonight.”

Nevertheless, the Lakers managed to provide a strong performance and book their place in the Western Conference Finals despite Smith’s prediction. James scored 30 points and dished out nine assists to lead the Lakers, and Anthony Davis who contributed with 20 rebounds and 17 points. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry scored a game-high 32 points, while the other players were ineffective.

The comments Smith made about James before the game drew criticism from NBA Twitter, and many NBA fans were eager to point out that Smith’s allegation was false.

One user wrote “LeBron has played in 8 Game 7s in his career. in those 8 games he is 6-2. 6 wins. 2 losses. Stephen A. just blatantly lied on National TV.” Another user wrote “I don’t get how you get on national TV and say something so inaccurate. Like it would take him less than 10 seconds to look up how many game 7s Lebron has won. So lazy”
