Damian Lillard has finally requested a trade-out from the Portland Trail Blazers. The guard will be parting ways with the franchise after a decade. And, undoubtedly he is the greatest Blazer ever and the franchise’s first-ever superstar. But now with him rolling out to a different team, the door is open for a new player to step up and lead the way. Rookie Scoot Henderson believes he’s that guy and is ready to become the face of the Portland Trail Blazers when Damian Lillard is traded.

Scoot Henderson is one of the reasons behind Damian Lillard requesting a trade. As the front office used the 3rd overall pick to bring him in while the All-Star guard wanted the team to trade it for a superstar. But now it’s all done and nothing can be changed as Dame is on his way out.  A week ago during Summer League practice, Henderson displayed his confidence in becoming the next leader of the team.

During his interaction with the media talking about Damian Lillard’s situation and his future. Scoot quoted: “I’m ready to embrace that. I feel like as long as I’m mentally strong, and I’m comfortable with everything that’s going on in my life and I’m going to embrace it, embrace the city of Portland, embrace the fans, embrace the love and the hate as well because that comes with it.”

The Portland Trail Blazers would be more than happy to watch this level of confidence in the young guard. But the fans aren’t riding the same boat and are doubting Scoot Henderson. As he is yet to play a single minute of NBA action where he’ll be up against some of the best players on the planet. And, the guy he’s thinking to replace is one of the best 75 players in the league’s history.

Many fans are clowning Scoot Henderson on Twitter for thinking he’ll be filling Damian Lillard’s shoes. They are doubting his skill, work ethic, leadership qualities, and chemistry as a rook.

Scoot Henderson has already impressed the majority of the basketball world with his numbers both on and off the court. Last season the young guard averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.5 assists over 19 regular season games for the Ignite. He already is drawing legendary comparisons with players like Russell Westbrook. So maybe he will clown all his haters and successfully lead the way for the Portland Trail Blazers.
