“This is huge” Boston Celtics emerge as strong contenders to acquire Kevin Durant

The 12xAll-Star, Kevin Durant shocked the Brooklyn Nets by requesting a trade last month. He signed an extension just a season ago and now after an early exit from the 2022 playoffs; he is looking at the change in scenario. Interestingly, KD might land in Boston, the team who sent the Nets packing in the 2022 postseason. As per the report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics’ ability to include 2021 All-star forward Jaylen Brown in any deal makes them a strong contender to acquire Durant. JB has two years left on his contract and enjoyed a personal best season in 2022.

It’s almost a month since NBA superstar Kevin Durant requested a move from the Media Center of the World, but that could be edging closer to a conclusion if rumors are believed. KD and Nets are expecting high returns in the deal, and Adrian claims that Boston could offer as many as three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps alongside Brown’s services.

Boston Celtics are not said to be in KD’s preferred destinations. And Miami Heat, The Suns, and the Raptors have also been credited with an interest in the 4-time scoring champion, but they do not have much intriguing package for the Nets 2022 leading scorer.

In terms of a deal between the Nets and the 2022 NBA finalist Celtics, ESPN claims that Boston star Jayson Tatum would be off-limits in any deal; but they could involve Jaylen Brown, with up to three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps could do the job. The Nets were holding on to more than 1 impactful player. We might have to wait for the finalization of the deal, but the current package seems interesting enough, which could give a huge boost to the Celtics’ chances of winning the NBA title since 2008.

Jaylen Brown records 23.1 points and 3.5 assists per game in the 2021/22 season along with 6.9 rebounds, while Kevin Durant averaged 29.9 points per game in the regular season with 6 assists and 7 rebounds. It is clearly a huge upgrade over JB’s production, despite the age point.

Kevin Durant has pretty good ball handling skills too, which would address the “guard” issue for the Celts. Offensive-minded Durant could be a useful piece in the set Celtics defense also, as he proved himself during his time at the Warriors.

Having won back-to-back NBA titles in 2017 and 2018 during his time with the Golden State Warriors, being named the finals’ MVP on both occasions, Durant has reportedly shown signs of discontent with the Nets’ failure to compete for a first-ever NBA title. They were swept aside by the Celtics’ defensive prowess, which could help slim Reaper if he joins the Greens. It would automatically improve KD’s performance, given that he would be playing with a better support cast.

Brooklyn Nets prioritized the Durant trade before any discussions regarding the Kyrie Irving situation. If the Nets chose to go ahead with the Celtics’ offer, they would land a young promising star player, who proved his worth in recent outings. And future picks will allow the Nets to build around a young megastar and make a run in the postseason.
