“It’s something he has done a lot in the past” Brandon Clarke on Draymond Green’s vicious flagrant-two foul on him

It seems as if the controversial flagrant 2 foul call on the former defensive player of the year, Draymond Green was not much of a “surprise” after all. Obviously, the Golden State Warriors star has been caught up in physical situations before and received a good amount of criticism for it. But getting ejected for what went down last night has not sat right with many.
In the footage, the player attempted to block a shot taken by Memphis Grizzlies player Brandon Clarke. What seemed like an intentional tug on the jersey which brought Clarke hard to the ground may have been an accidental one. Draymond almost instantly approached him to check if he was okay.
Referee explains why Draymond Green was given a flagrant 2
Despite Draymond Green’s absence, the Warriors were able to pull off a win 117-116 against the Grizzlies. Before being led outside the game, the All-Star center was sarcastically cheered by Memphis fans to which he gestured to keep it going. During the post-game presser, head referee Kane Fitzgerald shared his take on the situation.
On being asked why it was termed a flagrant 2 by reported Damichael Cole, Fitzgerald revealed saying, “Because the contact in total was considered unnecessary and excessive which leads to a flagrant foul penalty two and ejection.” He further detailed the call saying, “The first part was the win-up and significant contact to the face, and the pull down from the jersey grab and throw down to the floor.”
Brandon Clarke speaks about being thrown to the floor by Draymond Green
After the incident took place, Clarke remained on the floor for a considerable amount of time thinking he may have been injured. However, the player was lucky that he escaped any major injuries after experiencing such a hard fall. He has been averaging 10.4 points for the Grizzlies along with 5.3 rebounds shooting 64.4% from the field.
Cole would also hear Brandon’s thoughts on the fall as he said, “He’s been known for flagrant fouls in his career. I’ve watched him on TV my whole life it feels like, so I wasn’t really shocked. It’s not shocking that he did that. It’s something he’s done in the past.” He also said,” I don’t really like to flop or nothing, but he did hit me pretty hard twice when I saw it again.”
