The WNBA and its players have been the butt of jokes for sports fans for particularly no good reasons with fans making fun of the players’ salary or just downright disrespecting them and the event that took place in Dallas was a step too far.

The issue appears to be caused by a right-wing YouTuber, Alex Stein, who was planning on ‘exposing’ Brittney Griner. While Griner and her teammates were on their to their flight to Indiana, the Youtuber allegedly approached the team and harassed them.

Brittney Griner after her stint in a Russian prison and the trade made by the US to free her have made her a controversial political figure in the States. Following up on this, the WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert made ‘safety’ and unique confidential plans for player’s safety during travels between games.

The league however was accused of not following up on their promise as Brianna Turner took to Twitter to call out the League regarding player’s safety during travels. Brianna Turner is playing for the Phoenix Mercury, the same team as Brittney Griner.

As mentioned, Griner have become a very controversial figure spanning outside the WNBA and have attracted lots of political debates and the league seemed to have failed in protecting her and her teammates, as the incident from Friday night was the result of the team not having any security in the airport despite Griner being a popular figure.
