It was a packed house at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the fans were buzzing to see the first showdown between this year’s top two draft picks, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets. This was only the second time in summer league history that the tickets for the Thomas and Mack Center were sold out before the game.

Wembanyama, hailed as the best prospect since LeBron James, recently earned the title of MVP in the LNB Pro A league in France, where he also guided his team to the finals. Consequently, the 19-year-old French unicorn faced sky-high expectations, but his performance failed to meet them.

Many fans are critiquing Wembanyama’s performance, some even stating that the altercation between Britney Spears and Wembanyama’s security might have gotten in the way of his performance. According to TMZ, the pop icon wanted a picture with the French phenom and tapped him on the back, after which Spurs security staff confronted her.

Victor Wembanyama did not get off to a start in the NBA as most people were expecting him to have. He had a tough time getting the ball into the basket in his most recent outing against Miller. Wembanyama scored just nine points on 2-13 shooting, eight rebounds, five blocks, and three assists. Many fans and pundits shared their reactions.

Here are some of the reactions from Twitter:

A special moment. It’s really special to wear that jersey for the first time, it’s really an honor. Overall, I’m glad we won this game,” Wembanyama said in his post-game interview. “Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court tonight, but I’m trying to learn for the next games. The important thing is to be ready for the season.

Despite swatting away five shots, Victor Wembanyama had a rough night on the boards and on the offensive end. He let his opponents grab too many offensive rebounds and missed out on easy points. He also seemed to fade into the background when his team had the ball. It will be interesting to see how he responds and improves after this showing.
