The Phoenix Mercury star has been imprisoned in Russia following a recent hearing before a Russian court. When Griner was detained in a Russian airport back in February, the whole drama got noticed. She was arrested after the authorities discovered that she was carrying illegal substances. Griner has acknowledged carrying the drugs, but she has stated that it was an accident and that she never intended to do it in the first place.

The 31-year-old is regarded as the finest offensive player in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and was chosen in 2021 as one of the top 25 players in league history. She won a collegiate title at the national level in 2012 where she received the Player of the Year Award and with the US women’s national basketball team, she has won two Olympic gold medals as well as a WNBA Championship since she started her professional career in 2013.
