“Want my child to be happy” Brittney Griner’s father bluntly refused to show up at her wedding

Unfortunately, the reason Brittney Griner is receiving so much attention outside of basketball circles has little to do with her skill on the court. In August, a Russian court sentenced her to nine years in jail, intensifying the many months-long legal processes that have kept her imprisoned in Russia.
Glory Johnson, a fellow WNBA player, and Griner were once married. However, the marriage ended abruptly, upending the lives of the couple as well as their families. The marriage of the two basketball players was opposed by several members of Johnson’s family, and both their fathers even decided to skip the ceremony.
In addition, this union of two intensely competitive athletes was posing difficult concerns about gender mixing, domestic violence against same-sex partners, professional sports rules, and society’s fixation on celebrities as role models.
Griner’s wedding left unattended by her father
For the Brittney Griner- Glory Johnson wedding, it was found that Brittney’s mom attended the ceremony but not her father. In the case of Glory Johnson, her mother blessed the newlyweds when she was present at the wedding. The mother did not anticipate that one day her daughter would wed a woman.
In the past, Mercy Johnson talked openly about her daughter’s union with Griner. She admitted that she didn’t anticipate her youngest kid marrying a lady first. She said: “You want your child to be happy.. you have to love them and stand by them, that’s why I’m here and she looks happy.”
The pair had an altercation after getting engaged that developed into a nasty brawl and left both of them with minor injuries. When the lovers were taken into custody by the police for domestic abuse, Glory Johnson said that she had attempted to settle Brittney Griner down but had failed.
However, the two quickly made amends and got married a month later. However, after the couple had been married for a month, Griner applied for an annulment. After their appeal was turned down, their only alternative was to get a divorce, which they did a few months later.
