Bronny James, son of the NBA star LeBron James, made his debut as a player for the University of Southern California late last year. Since then, it has been a topic of discussion whether we will get to see Bronny play with his dad in the NBA. LeBron James, who is in his 21st year in the NBA seems as though he is not considering retirement anytime soon.

Austin Rivers, on ESPN, recently expressed that he does not want Bronny to play besides his dad. Rivers, son of Ex-NBA player and current head coach of The Milwaukee Bucks, said he does not want Bronny to suffer from the narrative that Rivers himself did. He said, 

I don't want to see Bronny play with [LeBron]... Him getting drafted & playing with his dad, I don't want that negativity to come his way. He doesn't deserve it... [He needs to] play somewhere where he can niche out his own identity.

According to Rivers, Bronny has been in the spotlight since the day he was born. He believes that the fans will constantly compare him with his father who is considered as one of the greatest. He hopes that he gets drafted by the contender teams who will help him reach his potential and get the opportunity to create his own identity.

Bronny returned to playing after suffering from cardiac arrest in July. He is currently averaging 5.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists with 37.2% FG as a USC Trojans guard. Fans have already started discussing by which team Bronny might get drafted or whether he will get drafted at all.

LeBron James aims to play with his son in NBA

LeBron James’ son Bronny James will be eligible for the 2024 NBA draft as he is currently playing for the University of Southern California. LeBron on the other hand has extended his contract with The Los Angeles Lakers for this year. But he will be a free agent for the 2024-25 season.

LeBron James has previously expressed his desire to play alongside his son in the NBA someday. He said it could be either as teammates or as competitors. James made this statement after his son expressed that he wants to play in the NBA in the future. But the Lakers forward also mentioned that it does not necessarily mean that Bronny wants the same.

This desire of wanting to play with his son could result in James extending his career in the NBA as a professional player. The star is currently the oldest player in the league and yet averaging 24.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.6 assists with 52.1%FG. He holds some of the biggest records in NBA history.
