As the 2023-24 NBA season approaches, all eyes are on the Chicago Bulls‘ star swingman, DeMar DeRozan, who is entering the concluding year of his current contract. DeRozan and the Bulls’ management are committed to developing a long-term relationship, highlighting the player’s importance to the team.

The Bulls’ general manager, Marc Eversley, has expressed genuine interest in retaining DeRozan beyond 2024. In an exclusive with The Athletic, Eversley praised DeRozan’s dual impact, stating, “DeMar’s been great, he’s been terrific for this group, not only on the court but off the court. He’s been a leader. I would love DeMar to be part of this program long term.”

While formal discussions surrounding an extended contract haven’t been initiated, Eversley remains optimistic. “Let’s see how that plays out and what that looks like going forward. When those conversations take place, we’ll speak about that more when that happens,” Eversley said. “But we hope Deebo’s back. He’s been an integral part of this program’s success. We hope he is here long term.”

DeMar DeRozan joined the Bulls lineup following a sign-and-trade deal with the San Antonio Spurs during the 2021–22 season. His performance has been nothing short of outstanding ever since. According to Spotrac, his contract has a massive $28.6 million for the final year, which is appropriate for a player of his level.

Over his two seasons with the Bulls, DeRozan has been a regular feature in the All-Star Games. In his first season with the team, he averaged a career-high 27.9 points, which only slightly decreased the following year to 24.5 points per game. But despite this, he continued to shoot exceptionally well, with 50.4% field goals over two years.

However, last season’s overall outcome wasn’t as promising for the Bulls, who wrapped up with a 40-42 tally. This led to an early exit from the play-in tournament. As the new season approaches, a more positive outcome will likely be the deciding factor in DeMar DeRozan’s choice to devote his future to the success of the Bulls.
