Chicago Bulls star Lonzo Ball was touted to be one of the next big things in basketball. He was presented as an elite point guard with impeccable court vision and great passing. While he has shown flashes of his true potential, people wonder whether or not he would ever reach it. This is because of the injuries that have kept him off the court.

Ball has had several knee surgeries through the last few years. The last time he stepped onto an NBA court was 20 months ago. The setbacks have been severe. Yet, Ball believes he will play for the Bulls once more. However, a few in the organization fail to share that same level of optimism. There are reports that some people in the organization doubt that Ball will ever play for them again, considering his rehab process is still going on.

Indeed, Ball is set to miss the 2023-2024 NBA season as well. Missing this season will mean that Ball will be out of action for more than a 1,000 days. It is an incredibly rare statistic for any player.

It is yet to be seen what the Chicago Bulls are to do with Ball. While, his teammates have expressed that they want Ball to stay, the franchise could very well trade him for a player who will actually be active on the court. His teammate Zach Lavine commented, “To see him working his way back, being around the team, seeing him in the weight room, seeing him on the court doing things, it’s a sight for sore eyes.”

He has talked about the importance of being mentally strong. Ball said, “Honestly, being out for as long as I’ve been out and all the injuries I have to deal with I think you just have to be positive.” He further added on, “First and foremost. If you lose your mind, you’re going to lose the battle. So it always starts with being positive and hoping for the best.”

The last time Ball played was on the 14th of January, 2022, when the Chicago Bulls played the Golden State Warriors. Ever since then it has been an uphill journey for him, undergoing a cycle of surgeries and rehab just to step on a court again. While his rehab is going good, he has not yet been able to play actual basketball. One can only hope that the rest of his rehab goes well and he is seen on-court in the 2024-2025 NBA season.
