“By the time LeBron hits 38, he’ll be the all-time leader in NBA points scored,” Shannon Sharpe’s 2018 prediction on LeBron James breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record comes true
Shannon Sharpe predicted the future with an incredible take on LeBron James back in 2018
Lebron James
NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe once made a bold prediction on LeBron James, and he got it spot on. The Los Angeles Lakers star broke Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s NBA scoring record on 7th February 2023. Back in 2018, when James was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Sharpe said he would break the record by the time he is 38. He turned 38 on December 30th and broke the record less than two months later.
“By the time LeBron hits 38, he’ll be the all-time leader in NBA points scored“, said Sharpe on Undisputed. In 2018, James crossed the 30,000-point mark at the age of 33. He still had 8000+ points to go and was already nearing his mid 30’s, yet the NFL legend could predict this. Well, that is mainly due to how James has continued to perform at this age. James went on to have a historic playoff run in 2018. However, he did not win the title as Golden State Warriors wrapped the Cavs up in 4 games.
Shannon Sharpe might have made the right call, but one particular Twitter user wrote James off back in 2015. The tweet said, “Lebron is 30, this f***ery won’t go on for much longer, thank god”. Since then, he has won two NBA championships, two finals MVPs, and broken multiple all-time records.

Following this major feat, LeBron James has a different milestone in his sights
After 20 beautiful years in the NBA, LeBron James claims he still has a few years left in him. He is still putting up monster numbers, averaging 30 PPG this season while putting the Lakers on his back. However, the real reason he refuses to retire is his son Bronny James. The young gun is currently still in high school and will be eligible for the draft after college, which is the 2024/25 season.
No father-son duo has ever played in the NBA at the same time. If there’s one thing James wants to do more than win a championship is play with his son. The four-time NBA champion has stated several times that it would be a dream come true for him to share the stage with Bronny. “I want to be on the court with him, I think that will be an unbelievable moment,” said James back when Bronny was going into his junior year of high school.
James recently stated he would love to play with his younger son, Bryce James, as well. In August 2022, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, he said, “I’d definitely be looking at who got first-round picks in 2024, 2025, things of that nature; 2026, ’27. I pay attention to that type of stuff “. Bryce is currently 15 years old and finishing 9th grade. LeBron James normally follows through on his promises, and the way things are going right now, it appears like he will do so again.
