“That takedown is clean AF” Caleb Martin brutally ‘spears’ Christian Koloko into courtside side in wild ‘double-ejection’ during Heat vs Raptors
Caleb Martin and Christian Koloko's scuffle
Emotions between the Miami Heat and the visiting Toronto Raptors reached a breaking point when Raptors rookie Christian Koloko was shoved into the stands by Miami Heat forward Caleb Martin which also resulted in a Heat win.
Since the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors are two of the NBA’s hardest teams, there have been many memorable games throughout the years. Because both teams work tirelessly, frustrations occasionally start to erupt. Even though their confrontations are often intense, the third-quarter altercation between Caleb Martin and Christian Koloko on Saturday night’s game skyrocketed, leading to both of their ejections from the game.
It all began in the third quarter, when Pascal Siakam of Toronto missed a 3-point attempt and Martin and Koloko fought for the rebound. Following the call for a foul on the play, Martin lowered his shoulder and formed a tackle with Koloko into the Miami crowd as Koloko tumbled to the ground. The Raptors rookie soon rose to his feet as both benches mostly cleared to assist in breaking up the altercation when Martin went towards him.
The intense matchup between Raptors and the Heat
Toronto was energized by the altercation, and the their response made the Miami Heat put in an extra effort to get their first victory of the year. The Heat defeated the Raptors 112-109 on Saturday night thanks to the contributions of Jimmy Butler’s 24 points, Max Strus’ 20 points off the bench, and Kyle Lowry’s 17 points. Additionally contributing to the scoring, Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo also played a major role after the team squandered most of their 24-point advantage before clinging on.
Pascal Siakam and Gary Trent Jr. led the way for Toronto as both of them had a team high 23 point. O.G. Anunoby scored 13 points, Scottie Barnes added 11, and Precious Achiuwa, the former Heat player, had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Despite their All-Star guard Fred VanVleet’s lackluster performance throughout the game, Toronto went on a strong run following the altercation, cutting the Heat’s 24-point advantage to six points early in the fourth but wasn’t able to come out on top.
The varied reactions of Caleb Martin and Christian Koloko’s scuffle
Christian Koloko stated in the post-game press conference that he was surprised as to why Caleb Martin pursued him following the foul. Crews had time to sweep up a lot of spilled beverages and clean up the area since the game was delayed for many minutes whilst referees examined the play. Along with the ejections, Martin and Koloko were also cautioned for technical fouls.
This is how NBA fans reacted to this ugly clash between Koloko and Martin:
The Raptors entered the game with a win over Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers, while the Heat were 0-2 after suffering defeats to the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics. The Raptors and Heat will play each other again in Florida on Monday following today’s game, and we’ll wait to see if there will be any other brawls after the most recent one.
