The Warriors’ style of play vs physicality in the 1980s has been a source of contention between former Celtic Cedric Maxwell and Warriors forward Draymond Green. The Warriors and Celtics are now engaged in a heated NBA Finals battle, with the series led by Boston at two games to one heading into game four. After a fairly peaceful game one, tensions erupted in game two, with Draymond Green and Grant Williams squabbling, both sides receiving technicals, and much more revealed after the game. After the game, the Celtics veteran made some comments regarding Green’s style of play, which the Warriors star didn’t appreciate and now the two are involved in a verbal brawl with one another.

After game two, Celtics veteran Cedric Maxwell expressed his discontent with Draymond’s behavior, claiming that the Warriors star would have gotten a punch or two back in the day. Green countered that he was probably bullied more than he became physical with other and the back-and-forth between the two has been amusing. Maxwell retorted that Green had no idea what he was talking about because he hadn’t even been born when he played and Green was advised to go ask his daddy who he was.

Maxwell was certainly involved in a number of brawls. The Celtics had bitter rivalries with the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, and Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s as many of such battles resulted in brawls.

“We stood on the shoulders of Giants. The reason he’s making 30 million he got on my shoulders and someone else’s shoulders. Don’t be disrespectful” Maxwell said on ‘Game Time’. He also implied that Green has a lack of respect for his actions and regarding the comments he issued at the press conference.

Before the series even started, Maxwell doubted Golden State’s toughness. He called the Warriors “tuxedo players” because they didn’t want to be touched. While the Celtics were dominant in the first game, the Warriors were much more physical in Game 2 and today’s game 3, with Green taking it upon himself to increase the physicality.
