Cedric Maxwell takes a hilarious dig at Lakers legend James Worthy as Celtics chase record 18 NBA Championship
Cedric Maxwell - Boston Celtics
With Boston Celtics chasing their record 18th NBA title, it seems like along with their players, the former stars have also decided to root for their beloved franchise. One of which is Cedric Maxwell, who decided to throw major shades at rival team’s James Worthy. To those who are not aware, if the Cs are able to upset the Golden State Warriors, they would become the most successful team in the league’s history.
Cedric Maxwell was one of the marquee players who managed to reignite the Celtics vs Lakers rivalry in the late 1980s and believes that another championship could very well be on the card for Ime Udoka’s team. In the process, he brutally went onto troll Los Angeles Lakers legend James Worthy.
What was opinionated by Cedric Maxwell?
“It always means everything when you’re going up against the Los Angeles Lakers,” said Cedric Maxwell, who won two titles in Boston, including MVP of the 1981 Finals, and is known for tossing barbs at Laker great James Worthy both in the media and in private.
“They’re supposedly tied with us,” Maxwell said. “People say they’re the standard-bearer of the NBA but the Celtics have been that since the start. And James Worthy, after we win this championship, I want you to smell our ass as we’re going by.”
The Boston Celtics were down by as many as 12 points entering the last quarter, but they managed to out-score the home team 40-16, courtesy to Al Horford and Jaylen Brown. Moreover, the shocking defeat for Warriors at Chase Center, has woken many up, who felt like Ime Udoka’s team would eventually run out of gas against the former champions, who are filled with marquee stars on both ends of the court.
That being said, who is the better team in the NBA among Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers seems to depend upon a lot of factors. But it is indeed safe to say that the Boston-LA rivalry supersedes all others in the league, as its long history always ensures bad blood between the teams and especially their respective fanbases.
