Celtics’ duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown should BREAK UP and trade for Damian Lillard, insists Kendrick Perkins
Kendrick Perkins urges Celtics to part ways with Tatum and Brown
Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins has made a bold statement regarding the future of the Boston Celtics’ duo, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Perkins insists that it is time for the Celtics to break up the dynamic pairing and pursue a trade for superstar Damian Lillard. Perkins argues that despite the duo’s past success, they have failed to complement each other effectively on the court.
As the Celtics find themselves down 0-3 in the Eastern Conference Finals, expectations were high for them to secure a spot in the NBA Finals. However, their disappointing performance in Game 3 has raised questions about the team’s chemistry and ability to compete at the highest level. Brown, one of the team’s star player, expressed his disappointment in the team’s collective effort, calling it embarrassing.
Perkins believes that a shakeup is necessary for the Celtics to regain their competitive edge. He argues that Tatum and Brown, despite their individual talents, fail to maximize their potential as a duo. Perkins suggests pursuing Damian Lillard would not only address the Celtics’ need for a consistent scoring threat but also provide a fresh start for the team.
Jaylen Brown’s optimism and a ray of hope
While the Celtics face an uphill battle to overcome their 0-3 deficit, Jaylen Brown remains optimistic about their chances. Despite the impossible task ahead, Brown believes that the Celtics can still mount a comeback and advance to the next round.
Brown acknowledges the Celtics’ shortcomings in the series, particularly their struggles to contain the Heat’s rotation players. However, he also acknowledges his personal responsibility as a team leader to step up and perform at a higher level. Brown understands that for the Celtics to have any chance of success, he must elevate his game.
“I don’t even know where to start. It’s an obvious letdown,” Brown said. “I feel like we let our fan base, organization down, let ourselves down. It was a collective. We can point fingers, but in reality, it’s just embarrassing.”
He added:
“We’ve just got to come out fighting and play basketball, I think both of these two games [the Heat] have been able to come out on top, but who is to say we can’t come out on top in the next two games? We just got to come ready to play basketball. We can’t lose our confidence. It’s the first to four. It should make for a better story.”
The odds may be stacked against the Celtics, as no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit in a playoff series. However, Brown remains undeterred and believes that the team’s fighting spirit and determination can propel them to a historic turnaround.
