If any basketball fan wanted a glimpse of what it takes to compete against the best in the world, Marcus Smart seems to be the epitome of it. As the reigning DPOY went against all expectations to challenge himself in a bid to help his team not lose Game 3 against Miami Heat at home.
To those who are not aware about the particular play, in the third quarter, Marcus Smart leaped early in an attempt to get an offensive rebound. But managed to fall on the floor with his ankle caught under Kyle Lowry. After which the young Celtics guard endured a scary ankle roll and screamed in pain as he was helped by the physio on the side-lines.
Marcus Smart goes beyond all limits to help Celtics edge past Heat in Game 3
Although Marcus Smart was carried to the locker room, he did not want to watch the rest of the game being out of action. He managed to take a few steps and managed to make his way on the court, after which the crowd at TD Garden went berserk in applauding the effort of the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
Smart’s importance in the Celtics is no unknown fact to any basketball fan. Currently in the form of his life, this player has played a huge role in turning the tables around for Ime Udoka’s team in the 2021-22 season. However, take a look at some of the fan reactions to his return-
Game 1 was one showdown where without Marcus Smart, Celtics could be seen struggling on the defensive end. Given that this particular Eastern Conference Final series is going to a tough task for each and every player, it is safe to say that whichever team is able to keep their marquee players injury-free, might go onto secure a berth in the NBA Finals as well.
Not only was the spoken off player carried to the locker room, but later on in the game even Jayson Tatum had to make a brief march to the locker room with shoulder injury concerns.
