Celtics star Jaylen Brown fetches a staggering $964,286 bonus after reaching the first NBA Finals

Jaylen Brown eligible for Bonuses
Boston Celtics reached the NBA finals winning game 7 against Miami Heat. Which resulted in marquee star and scorer Jaylen Brown being eligible for incentive bonuses of around $964,286, to be precise. With the showdown of Warriors vs Celtics all set to unravel, it seems like the youngster has got enough motivation to make the ultimate leap to the silverware.
Boston Celtics stars are over the moon right now. They worked hard for the postseasons and now getting recognized for the same. The playoff journey started with Celtics defeating heavy favorite Brooklyn Nets in straight games, shocking the NBA world in the very 1st round of the playoffs. After which they defeated defending champion Milwaukee Bucks and Eastern top seed Miami Heat in close contests and 7-game series. That allowed the Celtics to play in the NBA finals after a decade. That wasn’t enough to encourage players, the Celtics had contracts with some of the stars, where players will be eligible for performance bonuses.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Jaylen Brown is now eligible for the incentive bonuses worth $964,286. As per his contract with the franchise, Brown also hit on 2 bonuses worth $482,143 for games played and the Celtics reaching the second round.
Jaylen Brown and Boston Celtics stars encouraged to perform at the highest level

Record 17-time NBA champions Boston Celtics never made it into the NBA Finals since 2010. This could come as a shock to many fans but the dominance of LeBron James and his Miami Heat, and Cleveland Cavaliers teams left them empty-handed in the conference matchups only. Similarly, Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors emerged as strong teams from the East.
But now, Boston has a very capable team and they proved in the 2022 playoffs that they can go the distance for the title. They defeated the Miami heat – a team denying Boston’s last chance in 2020 for the Finals appearance, and booked their ticket for the matchup against Western Conference Champions Golden State Warriors.
The Celtics front office had a contract with players for such performance bonus, another encouraging factor to perform in the postseason. Jaylen Brown signed a Rookie extension contract in 2019. As per the contract, his salary includes $103,000,000 guaranteed and an annual average salary of $26,583,334. Plus he has performance bonuses for games played in the postseason. The bonus mentioned over the 4 seasons extension is $4 million likely incentives (plays 65 or more games, the team wins 49 or more games, and reaches the second round of playoffs)
Also, Al Horford signed a four-year contract with the 76ers that’d be worth $97 million-$109 million. The variable salary hinged on whether he made the NBA Finals and even won it all. Returning with the Green-side of the East, Horford will play in his 1st NBA finals. And an extra $5 million of his salary for next season has become guaranteed.

The Celtics got below the luxury-tax line on the trade-deadline day. But with Jaylen Brown and Al Horford making amounts above guaranteed ones, things could change a bit. If Boston wins the title, that’d push its team salary back into the tax. This wouldn’t be an issue for a franchise chasing for NBA title, after more than a decade.

That’d be a boon for the other non-taxpaying teams, who’d get an extra few hundred thousand dollars by including Boston’s tax payments and splitting the pot 22 rather than 23 ways. So, owners around the league have an incentive to cheer for the Celtics in the NBA Finals. Shall be a worry for Golden State Warriors? We don’t think so.
