Celtics star Jaylen Brown speaks out on little-known history with Warriors coach Steve Kerr
Jaylen Brown
After a couple of days of rest, Boston Celtics are ready to face Golden State Warriors for the 2022 NBA Championship. On the same note, Celtics Star Jaylen Brown updated everyone on his connection with Steve Kerr in a pre-game press conference, which surely can be deemed as their little-know history.
Much awaited 2022 NBA Finals series is just hours away from tip-off. Both teams are preparing their plans for the opposition, while players are polishing their skills for the biggest games of the season. Golden State Warriors have been here in the past, while the young Celtics team made it to the finals after 2 failed attempts in the last 5 seasons. Jaylen Brown, one of the instrumental players in the journey so far, was addressing the press before the game where he praised the Warriors team and also gave little known facts about his connection with Golden State Coach Steve Kerr.
Jaylen expressed nothing but praises and respect for his opponents and mentioned how he knows Steve Kerr way before entering the league. Jaylen Brown and Steve Kerr’s son Nick Kerr were teammates. Brown played just 1 season at Cal and averaged 14.6 points and then he went on to be the third overall pick by the Celtics in the 2016 NBA Draft. Nick Kerr remained undrafted in the same year.
Jaylen Brown on preparation for the finals series against Golden State Warriors
Boston Celtics may have surprised many people by making it into the finals, but they deserve every bit of appreciation that they are receiving at the moment. The franchise which won 17-NBA Championships in the previous 26 attempts will make its fresh run after a gap of 12 years. Every player played their role perfectly throughout the 18 games played, but Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, and Marcus Smart shone brightest so far.
While people doubted the Celtics’ young core, they did prepare themselves for every game even in the regular seasons, and executed their plans to get the results. Ime Udoka called the shots behind the scenes, which Jaylen Brown and co had delivered.
As far as preparing for the finals goes, Jaylen was just praising his opponents and explained how young Celtics players learned a lot from the Warriors in the past. He said, “One just watching those guys was like pretty cool to see. They’re probably the most winningest basketball players in the last 10 years. So watching, learning, studying and long before I got the NBA I got to talk to those guys (through Nick Kerr)”
Both teams have fared similarly in the regular season. Celtics have a 51-31 record in the East, while Warriors have a 53-29 record, separating both the teams by just 2 games. Also, they split the regular series matchups between themselves with Boston Celtics winning the latest encounter in march.
Offensively Golden State Warriors ranked higher than the Celtics, but defensively Boston has been excellent late in the season. They lead the league with the fewest points allowed. We have already seen offensively strong Brooklyn Nets struggling against the Celtics and it could be a huge advantage for the young team who are looking for their 1st NBA title in 12 years.
We now have very little waiting time to experience what would be an extravaganza of the 2022 season.
