On a recent visit to Stephen Colbert’s show, NBA icon Charles Barkley, renowned for his quick humor, playfully ribbed his fellow NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. The jest? Shaq’s surprise appearance in GQ magazine’s list of the ‘sexiest bald men’.

The chat, which also saw TV star Gayle King join in, took a light-hearted detour when Colbert mentioned Shaq’s GQ ranking. Barkley, known for his candid remarks, couldn’t resist a friendly tease, poking fun at the list and Shaquille’s inclusion.

When asked if he thinks Shaq is sexy, Charles Barkley had this to say:

HELL no! So Shaq came to work about a month ago, and there was an article that came out that [said] he was the ninth sexiest bald man. But he said it was GQ Magazine... and then we did a little research. It was South Africa GQ. He's ugly in South Africa and America. Shaq is ugly in all 50 states.

Barkley’s playful comments followed Shaquille O’Neal‘s proud mention of being ranked ninth in the ‘GQ’ magazine’s sexiest bald men. Barkley, in his typical jovial manner, pointed out that the honor was from the South African edition, humorously downplaying its importance.

The segment brimmed with chuckles as Barkley kept up his jovial critique of Shaq’s looks, even humorously claiming to be more handsome. The friendly banter between these NBA legends is a well-loved part of their rapport, often highlighted on Inside the NBA.

Shaq trolls Barkley’s New Year resolution for 2024

The beginning of a new year often brings about changes, and for Charles Barkley, it’s to give up Diet Coke. He confessed his habit was going too far, as he sometimes even drank 20 Diet Cokes a day. His resolution was met with skepticism from his co-hosts. To nobody’s surprise, they found some coke in his cup at the very moment he was declaring he’d quit.

Barkley literally pretended to have (or maybe even did have) withdrawal symptoms almost immediately after Kenny Smith poured his Coke in the trash. He picked up a water bottle and after every sip smacked his lips in disgust, missing all the sugar already. Then he went on to joke that “this stuff” (the water) “don’t taste like anything”.

As Barkley contemplated going “cold turkey,” Shaq seized the opportunity to tease him. He walked over to Chuck’s side of the table and took out all the cokes he was hiding in there, handing one out to each one of his co-hosts. All of them made sure to smack their lips and exclaim how good it was as they clinked their cans together, wishing everyone a happy New Year.

Beyond their banter, Barkley and O’Neal share a deep mutual respect and admiration. Their friendship has become a staple in sports entertainment, adding a personal, relatable dimension to professional basketball.
