The entire NBA fraternity is now talking about Ja Morant. After the Memphis Grizzlies star was seen flashing a gun for the second time in three months, fans, critics, media persons and executives are all talking about it. However, despite the adversity of the incident, there have been quite a few who have advocated for Morant. One of them, quite recently, was JJ Redick.
On the other hand, there are way more who are critical of the guard and are calling for severe punishments. Many have also bashed those who have defended Morant for his actions. After Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Charles Barkley was on the NBA on TNT show. This is where he lashed out at Redick for standing up for Morant and expressed his views on the entire situation.
“First of all I got to say man We’ve got some idiots, some fools some jacka***s on television that just really piss me off,” Charles Barkley said, throwing shade at JJ Redick. “Talking about Ja should make a stance saying he didn’t break any laws. He didn’t do anything wrong. We’re in a state where you can carry a gun. Those guys are just freakin idiots,” he added.
The NBA legend further went on to explain his views. “When you’re making a hundred million dollars a year to play sports, your life changes. There are certain rules and regulations you have to live by. Plain and simple. You can’t do stupid stuff,” he said. “Now if you wanna do all that stuff and give all that money back, more power to you. You can make that stance. ‘I wanna do what I wanna do. I wanna flash my gun and make videos of it’ okay that’s fine. But you can’t make money on the NBA doing this stuff.”

What did JJ Redick say about the Ja Morant incident?
Just like everyone else, JJ Redick had his own opinion on Ja Morant and how he should be penalized. He was speaking to Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take when he explained in detail how he feels about the entire situation.
“As far as we know, all of these things have been investigated and no law has been broken,” he said. “I’m not condoning the behaviour. I’m not saying that there should not be no punishment. There should be. There should be consequences. You are the face of the league. You are representing the NBA and you are a role model to the kids. All of that. I don’t think half a season is the right answer.”
He also criticized some GOP leaders, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Redick hinted that Morant was being held to a different standard than Abbott. “In our country right now, gun culture is pervasive. It’s pervasive. We’ve got mass shooting after mass shooting and nobody’s doing a damn thing about it. So I get why we’re so sensitive to this right now. But there’s no consequence for Greg Abbott for telling his constituents to buy more guns and then we have mass shooting after mass shooting in Texas,” Redick stated
There’s no consequence for an elected Tennessee official for sending out Christmas cards holding AR-15s with his young family and then there’s a shooting in his very district. There’s no consequences to that. So why are we trying to lay down the hammer on a 23 year old who didn’t break a law?” he concluded.
There’s no doubt that the NBA fraternity is divided on what Ja Morant’s punishment should be. Amid speculations, the league has an investigation to gather more information. As of the Memphis Grizzlies, the organization has suspended Morant from all team activities. The final verdict on his penalty is yet to be made.
