Barkley was a recent guest on the “Bickley and Marotta” podcast on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. He was asked about Kevin Durant and his status among the league, In Barkley fashion, the Hall of Famer did not sugarcoat his words as he said, “ “All the old guys, he gets mad we say it, but he piggybacked on the Warriors to win his first two championships, But if you go back and look at his career, as the best player and being the leader that all goes with that, he’s been an abject failure. Every time he’s had to be the leader and best player, he has not had success. That’s what us old guys think about him.”

Barkley called the 7ft forward a “miserable person” who is not happy after all that’s happened stating, “He seems like a miserable person, I call him Mr Miserable. He’s never going to be happy. Everybody’s given him everything on a silver platter. He was the man in Oklahoma City, they loved him, and he owned the entire state.  He bolts on them and wins back-to-back championships, and he’s still not happy. Then he goes to Brooklyn. They give him everything he wants and he’s still miserable.”

After a tremulous off-season with Durant’s trade demands, The Nets were successful in keeping the former champion on the team while also not fulfilling his other condition of having the Head Coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks fired. A move by Durant which has been heavily criticised by many people and his move to the Warriors after they beat him in OKC in a 3-1 comeback is still to this day criticsed by many.

While Durant is a villain towards many fans and players in the league for his actions. While the “bus driver” from Barkley’s analogy of him not leading a team but joining one that was already well-established to an extend rings true and the recent run with the Nets has been underwhelming. KD has a stat sheet that most NBA players cannot compare to. With two championships, two finals MVP and a regular season MVP and making the all-star team twelve times. His legacy is more than secure and moving forward is only likely to grow more.
